The four faces of Jesus Christ, 2000
Acrylic painting on canvas: 150x130 cm

This work involves a symbolic sense that needs to be depicted. Four diluted black blots with a red mark in each, are arranged in a very dim yellow background. Their orientation in space balance the composition. Above them, the artist draws gestural lines, fused with irregularly shaped spots to simplify a repeating face on whose head seems to rest a sort of crown. In between these faces, there are tiny images, including a cross. Such images are considered symbols which add up: face, red spot, crown and cross. They immediately connect us with the Crucifixion of Jesus.

By using a contemporary, synthetic plastic language, the author recreates forms of religious simbology, joining both profane and sacred existences in a close embrace.
